SATELLITE DESCRIPTION
The 7th Annual Symposium on Global Cancer Research will be held on March 7, 2019, prior to the start of the 10th Annual Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) Global Health Conference.

SESSION OBJECTIVES:
This meeting will focus on the need for cancer research/oncology to become a priority in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC). Cancer research and oncology is increasingly becoming high-tech and high-priced in the global north/west and hte global south is faced with population growth and increased burden of cancer. This creates a massive need for development and implementation of innovative and context-specific solutions to cancer in the LMIC world. At the same time, there is now an opportunity to begin eradication of one of the most prevalent and devastating malignancies in LMICs with vaccination against HPV to prevent cervical cancer.

SESSION DESCRIPTION:
This meeting will address these issues in presentations and panel discussions by global leaders in global cancer and interactive sessions with the audience with as objective to arrive at concrete ways forward. A keynote address about need for cancer/oncology to become a global priority followed by a brief discussion will set the tone for the meeting. An update about progress in eradication of cervical cancer is planned as follow-up of the 2017 meeting on global cancer. Two sesions are planned wiht brief presentations and a panel discussion on development and implementation of innovative and context-specific solutions to dealing iwth cancer in the LMIC world, including but not limited to aspects of diagnostic and treatment obstacles to providing cancer care in LMICs. In addition, a poster session will be held to provide participants with an opportunity to present and discuss their research and implementation studies. Concluding remarks will summarize the concrete ways forwrd in cancer care in LMICs identified during this one-day meeting.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES:
Productive and interactive presentations and discussions are intended to yield some concrete ways forward in cancer care in LMICs identified during this one day satellite meeting.
